The story of monk fruit

Nature's super-sweet miracle

Monk fruit (Siraitia grosvenorii) comes from the southern regions of China. It was named after the Buddhist monks who cultivated it for centuries and used it in traditional remedies — mainly for colds, asthma and digestive discomfort.

It is a small, greenish-brown fruit belonging to the gourd family (Cucurbitaceae). Its modern popularity comes from an extraordinary sweetness that stems not from natural sugars but from Mogroside V and related mogrosides — compounds that are many times (up to 150–300×) sweeter than sugar while carrying practically no calories.

We harvest our fruit in the same region as the monks did, using traditional and environmentally friendly methods.

FAQ

Most frequently asked

How sweet is monk fruit powder?

Our 3.5% Mogroside V, resistant-dextrin monk fruit powder is roughly 18–20× sweeter than sugar. Always start with a small amount.

Powder or syrup?

Powder is our recommendation for baking and creams; the syrup — the liquid extract — is best in beverages, ice cream and as a topping.

Does it have an aftertaste?

It gives a clean, rounded sweetness; only very large doses reveal a subtle character, so dose it moderately.

How do I store it?

In a cool, dry place, tightly closed. Refrigerate the syrup after opening.
